Default Looking for a spot of advice...

Well i have been lurking for a wile and think this place is alright. But anyway, i have been saving for a bike for about 3 months now. By the time i seperate from the AF im hoping to just cut a check for a bike. Anyway i saw one of those 1200N Sportsters and now i must have one, there realy isnt any debate to it. What are you guys getting these for (price out the door and such)and what are peoples general experience with this particular modle. But I must admit i am a little iffy about having 79lb ft on tap (im coming from a 74 Honda 200[:'(])...

You will love it. A buddy of mine picked up the two tone OD Green/Black Nightster. Loves it. I think he got his for about 12,500 out the door.

I'm sorry that I don't have any answers for you regarding prices. But I would like to thank you for your service to our country. Also, about the power difference between your previous bike and the Nightster, you will do fine with the power if you take your time getting used to it and don't over-ride your skill level.

I hope someone with a nightster can get you some price info.

You will find that you will adapt quickly to the Sportster at speed. The primary issues are the parkedweight and, as you point out, the torque. To roll the bike, take your time and stay astraddle--you should be OK.

The torque is a two edged sword. If you have good clutch technique, torque is probably more ofa hazard when the engine dies or you downshift. If she runs good and you downshift cautiously, you should be fine. When parking, keep that clutch lever in until she is stone cold dead and avoid nasty surprises. I like to follow the same routine every time I park--clutch in, kill switch on, engine dead, key switch off, release clutch.

Enjoy the ride.

I can ride my 1200 just as slow as you can ride your 200. It's all in the right wrist. The wrist is attached to your brain and if you use your head you will have no problems
