I'm 70 and had my 2001 Road King for right at 20 years. Jazzed it up with power and custom do-dads. I came to hate riding it.

I traded it in on a Forty Eight 2 years ago. I should never have sold my '99 Sporty...it only took me 20 years to discover the mistake I made.

Lovin' the Forty Eight...

I should have mentioned, I have sat on the softtails, but the ones I liked, looks wise, all had forward controls, amd were not friendly to my short inseam. Those also had exhaust that would not allow for mids, and I don't want to HAVE to swap exhaust right off the bat.

Yea, one could get way out of control doing these bikes up.

This was what I had, for reference. I had longer fork dampers, and 13" HD air shocks, Viking saddlebags, and HD detachable windshield.

Does someone know if those Roadster cafe bars would retrofit to a 1991? Do they still have the dimple channel for the wires? Harley Part Number? Any aftermarket bars similar?

Agree with you. I went with a Danny Grey Buttcrack to get me closer to the ground and I'm 6'1" and just turned 74. But legs are weaker than they used to be. Don't ride 2 up either. Got Ducati Scrambler to ride local and use the King for long rides.

Just another thought, and I've been contemplating this for a while since I'm not getting younger but I love riding. Any inkling to getting a sidecar for that Ultra? This could solve a lot of things for you.

There are some styles from vintage to more modern. And the wife can relax in the sidecar or ride 2-up with you. Certainly a conversation starter wherever you go.

Not a side car, but we (me mostly) have semi seriously talked about a Harley Trike. I could tour with her on that and ride the sporty local. Lol, I say tour, I am not sure how long of a ride she would be willing to take. I think a couple hundred miles might be it. Now if I could get a trike, build a cap over the seats, and install an AC system, we could probably get a lot more, lol.

It's near the end of summer, might be a good time to find a Sportster.

Hello John,

The H-D part number for the XL1200CX "Roadster" bars is 55800547, they do have dimples for the switchgear wiring. As they are 1" in diameter like most H-D bars there's no reason why they can't be installed on a 1991 Sportster.

Another option would be Burly Brand "Clubman" bars, these are made for Sportster models in 1" diameter, these bars are available in bright chrome or black gloss powder coating, I'm not sure if they have dimples though.

Yet another option is Norman Hyde's "M" bars for the Triumph "America" and "Speedmaster" models, they give a similar stance to the "Roadster" bars. They are 1" in diameter, but unfortunately they don't have dimples for the wiring. You could drill holes in them to route the wiring internally for a cleaner look. The "M" bars also come in bright chrome or black gloss powder coating, they cost Ł47.83 plus tax.

I hope that has helped you.
