so my 07 nightster was dropped on the left side and wouldn’t shift into 2-5. It would go into 1-n.
Removed everything to get at the pawl and the top spring was missing and the top arm on the pawl had jumped over the piece that keeps the arm in place.
put the arm back where it should be and it shifted to 4th but the arm on the pawl wouldn’t quite reach the spot on the drum to shift into 5th.
after rolling the bike back and forth a bit I did get it to reach 5th on the drum and it would cycle through all 5 gears and neutral. Moved the bike a bit and now it only goes between 2nd and third I think.
Just wondering if rolling the bike back and forth and fight the sweet spot is the correct way to get it to properly shift into all 5 gears or if I’m going about this the wrong way. Any advice is appreciated thanks
If the bike is static you typically have to rock it fwd and back to get it to drop into the gears. that's normal for bikes. Have you had it on the road to test it?

im currently waiting on the two 8 dollar springs from Harley so everything is still apart on the bench for the moment. I just didn’t want to get it back together and find I still have the same problem of it not cycling through all 5 gears and neutral.
I guess you'll have to wait till its back together to be sure but like I was saying hard going into gears when the bike is just sitting cold is completely normal. Rocking it is a normal technique in those situations.

ya. I did get it cycle through all 5 gears and neutral by moving the bike but then moved it again and it wouldn’t. Fingers crossed haha
