Hoping to get some insight. I have a 1996 Sportster 883. It is a hardtail chopper that has been simplified to say the least. CV carb has been rebuilt, and cleaned multiple times, new gas lines, new in line filter, and new gas tank/petcock.
The sputtering stopped after all the above was done, but now it's back but not as severe; it seems to only happen in 1st or 2nd gear at the beginning of twisting the throttle after gear change. It will hesitate/sputter once, maybe twice, then it will be fine during sustained throttle and doesn't do it in 3rd-5th gear.
The spark plug wires are almost new as are the plugs, and the coil seems to be in good condition, although I have not yet tested it. Outside of a timing issue (which I don't have the capabilities of doing it on my own), is there anything else I need to check that I am missing? Thanks in advance for any insight.
