Default Excessive mileage

Hi guys. Scott here. I have the opportunity to buy a 2008 883 sportster. The guy is asking $3800.00. It has 30,000 miles on it. It's pretty clean and I think the guy has taken care of it. My question is 30,000 miles something to worry about? Thanks.

It's barely broken in at 30K. One of our members had over 200K on his with no problems. Price seems a little high for a 15 year old 883. But, every market is different.

He ask more than it is worth even if it had low miles on it. There is nothing about an 883 that calls for paying extra for it.
30,000 miles would not be a deal breaker but the price says walk away. At 30K it should be on the low side of the numbers.

I wouldn't worry about that mileage. If it's a clean 883 I could see that price where I live. It depends on where you live as to how much you're going to pay.

You should be able to get an easy 50k out of any Harley unless I worked on it. Then you might need a Priest every time you go to start it.

You pick some number out of the air that suggests the 883 engine has maybe 4 or 5 years left in it even after it is pointed out a member on the forum has over 200,000 miles on his 2006 Sportster.

We would need a lot more information to tell you if it’s a good price. People here tend to tell you you’re paying too much, but can’t show you a similar bike that is actually lower.

The condition of the bike, and how it was maintained makes a big difference. A $3,800 bike that doesn’t need anything is a better deal than a $3,000 bike that needs $2,000 in repairs.

I bought two garage queens. One was a fantastic deal, and one has been an unreliable money pit. Go on Cycletrader and do a search for similar bikes in your area. I did a search of 883s with 25-35k miles near Maryland. If that bike is in good condition, and you like if, buy it. If you go on the Internet, it’s easy to get paralysis by analysis. The key is maintenance records and a test ride. You can’t tell by just looking at it if it’s in good condition unless you’re an experience mechanic.

30000 is ok but 3800.00 is to much for that bike. Check out FB marketplace or cycle trader.I think you could get more bang for your buck in our area.

Not a horrible deal if it's got maintenance records.
