So when I hit 4th or 5th gear on the highway at high rpm’s the bike starts to lose power and limit me to 60mph if I try to roll on the throttle the bike stutters and won’t go any faster only way for it to stop is to clutch in when I do that the bike turns off and I pretty much have to turn it off the electric start switch and turn it on really quick only happens in 4th and 5th around 4k-4.5k rpm’s I changed the petcock put a new fuel line in carbs been rebuilt I can not figure out what’s going on and it’s pretty annoying
Could still be a carb issue, but the 1999 bikes also have an ignition module that fails due to heat and was discontinued. Aftermarket ignitions are available. That could be why it shuts down when you pull the clutch in. But, clogged pilot jets can do the same as well.
I would probably take a look inside the carb, make sure the vacuum piston diaphragm is not torn, look for clogged jets, clean out the passages. When is the last time the intake manifold seals were changed out? Rebuild kits are cheap on Ebay.
