I’ll never understand removing the exhaust to pull an axle.
That is odd because I can pull the axle on my SuperLow with the exhaust fitted.

Andy, I figured you would have some insight. The rear muffler on my low will not clear the axel flange; so being pure hillbilly I loosened the muffler clamp, removed the crossover pipe bolts from the rear muffler and started a yoga session of prying down the muffler with a foot while tapping the axle out.

Obviously, my foot needs calibration. Hoping to get the crossover seals installed next weekend and looking to find the ah-ha moment during the removal and install process.

On another front, looking at the Traxxion front fork scrambler kit and Mr Dan at Traxxion found a tube difference between the low and the standard. I thought the damper tube was the only difference. It’s looking like I need to order two of the #45395-04 slider tubes. Does that sound right?

Traxxion is helping out and they’ve been responsive and cool.

Ha ha. LOL. A calibrated foot.

If when I need to remove my muffler on my bike it's much easier as the crossover is in the headers.

Perhaps another approach to 'skin this cat' would be to jack the back end up & remove the shock bolts, then
the rear should drop down enough that the axle is below the muffler. OR, how about putting the axle
bolt in from the other side ? Just some thoughts....

good luck,

T.

T, I thought about dropping the shock bolts but the panniers were my excuse to be lazy.

I didn’t think about flipping the axel and I cant see how that could cause any snags, thank you.

Got the damn cross connect seals in yesterday, had to pull the connect pipe, sprocket cover and brake controls. It’s a much better design on the later models with the welded H on the head pipes than dealing with those pesky seals.

Found some Holts Firegum from an older UK Black Widow pipe kit I installed on my T700. That nasty stuff works well.

Had a wet & wild ride in the rain testing and no leaks. And man that little dude is quiet compared to the 1200, which sounds like Fred Astaire is under the rocker cover.

Slowly making progress.

State inspection is passed, decided to throw on the bars and mid controls yesterday. Bars needed a bit of grinder work, the wiring slots/dimples were about 5/8 too short. I’d much rather cut and modify than deal with return shipping, I remember seeing some info on the bar modifications from Burly so not their snag, mine from selective comprehension.

The Amazon mid-controls went on and adjusted without drama, minus the original installers use of red loctite. Could have pulled the exhaust to make the install breezy, but I chose to fight the linkage one quarter turn at a time. Not a fan of the Amazon pegs, so swapping to some passenger pegs I have laying around.

Might have to hang this on the Christmas tree.

Hoping to get the rear shocks on and swap the pegs today, ought to have the 70s air shock rake with the 15” shocks and factory low tubes in front.

Front end gets a Traxxion kit next week when the seal kit arrives, amazing part is my local HD dealer got the stock tubes in 5 days.

The bike looks happy, has a Herbie the love bug vibe, thinking red/white/blue stripe and number 53.

Just wondering, have you got a longer or extra long kickstand yet ? If so, might you have a link to
the place you purchased it ?

Thanks,

T. (currently down the road from Knoxville in Cosby, TN)

Briefly looked for an extended kickstand and had no luck. I’m thinking on welding a pad on the bottom, probably going to need an additional 2”.

Hit a couple snags yesterday with the shock install. Had the bike fall off the jack during the muffler removal, took out the clutch lever and with the left side mid-control not full tightened it tweaked the cable connection into the primary enough to leak. Yet another confirmation that stupid hurts.

Didn’t figure on the belt clearance to the rear brake cylinder mount with the 15” shocks; the 2007 model has a massive bracket and pivot arm that sits a bit low. After the front is done and the sag is close, I’ll revisit the belt clearance. Might have to lower the mount or convert to a later model cylinder, which will require changes the mid-control linkage/brake pedal. I missed the front fork bushings too, need to order them next week.

It’s a learning experience with the different variations between model/years.
