My 2005 883L had just over 10K miles when I bought it this spring. Dealer told me that "the guy who traded it just did the 10K service". Odd, though, that I found the oil darker than I thought it should be. In any case, I did an oil and filter change and run synthetic and after 1,000+ miles it's as clean as when I put it in.
Last time I was at the dealer, I asked them to pull the service records and they found Stage 1 upgrade, the Hines pipes upgrade, etc - - but....no 10K service. "maybe it was done at another dealer" was their answer.
Anyway, I'm not at about 13K miles. Do I complete the 10K interval? do the 15K?? If i ignore the 10K service what very important issues would my bike miss? What is critical? I just changed the plugs, and of course oil and filter as I mentioned.
If I was near 10k and was trading my bike in, no way would I pay to have service done, it's a waste. The onlyway I could see it having been serviced is if the old owner made an impulse buy.
When in doubt, always do and when speaking to any representative of HD, always take what you hear with a grain of salt, they are all salesman from the guy sweeping the floor to the president.
I would do the 15K service plus any steps that are not repeats from the 10k, you'll be fully covered.
I just checked my owners manual and the few differencesi found were trany fluid change and plug change everything else was just inspect this, check that, so if you do some routine thngs yourself, and keep the fluids clean you should be all set. check another dealer if you dont like the service at that one,I call different ones and ask quests. all the time
Thanks for the advice. My owners manual says "inspect" on most items, too.
I have the oil, filter, plugs well covered. This I do myself. Wondering about forks and also belt tensions and other critical"adjustments" that might effect safety. I really want to work this bike myself as much as possible but I don't have a lift yet.
I think I'll schedule a 15K service and have them look it over - we'll see how that works out....

I think you got your answer when you checked the color of the oil, assume it was not done and add those items to the next service.
