Treat the vacuum petcock like a manual petcock and you will never have an issue. Always shut it off when not riding. If you really need a manual, get a Pingel, expensive but worth it.
My buddy buys and sells dual sports, and Suzuki DRZ400s are notorious for filling the crankcase with gas if the vacuum petcock fails. We automatically replace every single one with a manual petcock.

Then you are relying on a person. Which is even less reliable. Fun to watch them try to start a back at the bar only to find out gas off too.
On my last petcock, carburetor with choke bike, I had this small sticker on the wind screen.
It was vacuum petcock too, a metric with two diaphragms, so pretty safe, but I still alway turned it off.
My biggest issue was a couple times forgetting to turn it on. That was years ago. Today, with TV screens in the front dashed of cages, that can get you killed unless you practice turning it on.
HD vacuum petcock is pure garbage. Nothing but problems with that stupid thing on my bike. Replaced it with a pingel and have never had an issue. I forget to turn it off all the time. No problem. If your carb is in good order it's not really an issue.
Keep in mind everone that if the carb is overflowing, that has nothing to do with the petcock no mater the type. Now if screen is bad in petcock, it will.
Finally got the bike back. The OEM vacuum petcock was already replaced with a manual version although dunno the brand. Local shop said they replace all HD vacuum petcocks with manual. Overflow issue was float set too high.
Y'all can run these trash petcocks if you want. Your bike/your money. Problem isn't setting overnight. Problem is dumping raw fuel into the intake when running when it fails...and it will fail.
Shop fixed most of her gremlins although the speedo is still inop. Did a good job. Expensive. But think they went too lean with the jets as she spat and popped last night riding home in a light mist. May try richening the idle mix a bit...when I have time.
