i've heard that when you are preparing your bike for storage, along w/ the standard washing/waxing/oil/fluids switchout procedures, you can cover the entire bike (minus the seat and any leather or windshield or whatever) with a coat of WD-40 to protect all the surfaces and prohibit any condensation. has anyone else ever heard of this or tried this?
Store it. Thats just crazy talk. He he, just kidding, im blessed with warm weather during the winter. Ive never heard of that trick, kinda curious what others say.
WD40 is a penetrating oil. Be very careful about what you put on your ride. I would check with other folks in your area who store their scooters and see what they suggest. Seems to me the WD40 would be a real pain to clean up as well !!
Unless you want LOTS OF WORK in the spring - keep the wd-40 set aside for things that squeak - DON'T do it - any overspray on brake pads, plastic, leather - not good. Top off tank, add stabil, turn off fuel petcock, wash/dry/wax - crack open many beers and sober up when temp. permitts
ha thats what i figured. A good friend of mine told me about it, he just sprayed it down and everything a couple of weeks ago. what kind of problems is he going to have exactly? i'd love to rub it in his face hahj/k if its anything too bad i'll suggest him to wash it all off but even then, would the damage already be done?
Actually, WD-40 is recommended for spraying on chrome/metal parts to keep the effects of the condensation created in garages during the winter, to a minimum. The warm/cold cycles and the salt that is tracked in by the car, or by the bike if you take it out) here in the Great Northeast creates a breeding ground for pitted chrome. Wd-40 is also effective when used on black motors, etc..
Starting to remind me of an old joke about a guy visitin his girlfriends parents on his bike, carryin a tube of Vasoline in case of rain - - It's a little raunchy but the jist of it was after having his way with the girlfriend and the mother, he notices it's startin to rain and reaches for the Vasoline - then the father starts screamin - FINE - I'LL DO THE DISHS
IMO Sprying that stuff on is your choice - get any on your tires, brakes, rubber hoses - dust settling on the oily film - good luck and have fun cleaning
