Thanks

Most bikes can easily go 8 inches. 10 maybe.
Any higher and you’ll need new cables and brake line.

Plan ahead if you want to internally wire everything within the bars. I installed Biltwell Chumps and had just enough slack to internally wire everything.

Most likely 6" would be safe but you'll have to un pin the wiring from (most likely) under the tank. And if you're doing that you might as well by the wire extension kit. Plug n play then.

  1. unbolt your current handlebar from the risers
  2. lift it up as high as it can go
  3. measure how high you raised it.
That's how much higher you can go.

8" is the highest bars that you can install with the stock wiring and brake hose, the only modification required is to straighten the bend on the metal bundy tubing on the brake line.

Biltwell Chump bars are ideal and they have an 8" rise, they arent exactly apehangers but they do suit the proportions of a Sportster. They are available in black or chome finish.

Thank you for your reply,

I used to have one of those bulb horns on my 1959 BSA C15, it was more suited to a bicycle than a motorcycle, but it was perfectly legal here in the UK.

I sold that BSA to a lady friend in 1984 for Ł60.00.

The Biltwell Chump bars are very good quality, but their price reflects their quality at over $200, if your budget won't stretch to that, there are less expensive options available but make sure the bars you choose have dimples or slotted holes for the switchgear wiring to sit into.
