Default Overheating

Hey,
My 2006 XL1200L Sporty is to me, the greatest Bkie in the wourld. But on my 20 mile run to work, the oil is going up to 240 degrees. I live in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. and the ambiant temp. is approx. 90 degrees. I'm usingmobil 20/50. I run around 80mph on the Fl. Turn Pike, so its a non stop ride most of the 20 miles. On the ride home the air temp is in the 80's at 11:30 pm. The bike stays around 200degrees, the recomended temp. Just wondered if anyone has ever had this happen.

Here in Dallas on 100° days after riding stop and go lights for about an hour I may see 225°. I am running Syn3.The biggest factor besides OATis how much weight theengine is driving and engine RPM.At 80 MPH the engine isrunning a high RPM, then factor in increased drag at that speed, hot air trying to cool down the engine along with high humidity and hot air being ingested into the engine ,decreasing performance, requiring more throttle to keep it moving.

Before I switched to syn oil, my bike would get up to 240 quite often. Since I changed to Moble 1 V-twin, it rarely gets above 200, and never above 220. Even in stop and go traffic with temps at 105 a couple of weeks ago.

I'm just north of you in Palm Beach and running Mobil 1 15w-50. My temps have been staying in the 180-200 range even in stop & go traffic. Mine used to climb towards 220-230 on dino oil.

I rode for 70 miles at 65-75 mph on the highway the other day.It was about 90 degrees and very humid. The temp never got over 220.I use 20w/50 harley regular oil.I've never seen 240.Thats high for any oil.

I have changed to mobil 1 Syn. and it seems to have made the difference. The ambiant temp, or air temp is still around 90 and I've made no other change but the oil. Seems to have solved my problem.
