Do I really need an oil change?
I would change it. But I’m in an area with 100 degree swings in 6 months and 50-60% humidity in the summer.
Most of my gear gets two changes a year regardless of miles or hours. I waste a lot of oil with tractors and junk. Never felt the need for testing or analysis, it’s a $40-$60 swap with filter.
Always get a chuckle at the dump draining my two 30 gallon jugs, like Kramer with the barrels on the highway.
I take two pairs of shoes to the dump…

Yeah, less than $70 (if DIY) every year.
Only way to know for sure is a Blackstone Labs oil test... @$30.
This test could pay for itself over time.
To answer the question... even if the oil "just sitting" in the engine, acids are created and moisture is retained (so they say
)
If tested, let us know your results.
