Most exciting new model?
By the way, the UK/European Nightsters have a number of differences from the US version. The rear fender, light assembly and number plate mount are different. I think (90% sure) they have longer travel suspension too, giving them a taller look than in the US, but I may be wrong on that.
My 2 cents,
Ron
That to me is what a y2k sportster should be now. Carbon fiber, custom swingarm, dual disc brakes etc. Not the same ol bike with a different "anniversary color" etc etc. I would love to see more technology integrated into the sportster, the nightster is going in the right direction but just doesn't come close enough for me.
I maintained objectivity with the Fatbob. I gave it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it just photographs poorly. I'll wait until I see one in person. Well, I saw one yesterday. It photographed as it looks - It also looks like they tried too hard.
Both bikes look like Harley wanted to, as Paul Jr says every episode, "...do something we have never done before." But they didn't want to be a hypocrite like Paulie so they created some craziness that no one could dispute was new and different.
I have Sportsters already so I have honestly never really gave the Nightster any serious consideration.
I reserve the right to change my mind but as of today I have absolutely no desire to ride a bagger. ABS, fat tanks, and fly by wire arenât enough to get me to change my mind. Although I will say that fly by wire implementations into other models might be something I would appreciate.
Summarizing:
Rocker? Nope.
Fatbob? Nope.
Nightster? I'll just say I already own 2 Sportys and leave it at that.
Bagger? When I get to the point where I need that kind of bike I'll hang up the helmet and drive a car.
V-Rod? I might enjoy riding one just to futz around on it but I'll never own one.
A write-in candidate: Can we nominate CVO models? I'm partial to the CVO Springer. I might have picked a couple different pieces parts but overall I think these are well thought out creations that capture more of the Harley spirit.
Sorry, I guess I'm the odd man out. The Rocker is too formulaic for me. It reminds me of the OCC mentality that keeps knockin' out the same bike with different colors. Heck, even OCC is now an OEM supplier. The XL1200C in misnamed as a "Custom" but the Rocker IS a factory custom. Now, there's an oxymoron: "factory custom"!
Maybe I need analysis?
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I haven't taken that route on a bike yet Grumbler.... I've been that way in my truck, and I can see where it would be good riding.... I'll have to make the trip sometime
Was out there this past June as part of a 4-days/3-nights loop (Boise to Clarkston to Missoula to Clarkston to Boise).
Next time around will probably stay at the http://www.westernmotorinn.com/in Kooskia which is ~5 hours (225mi) north of Boise. Kooskia to Lolois ~266 miles. While 93-75-21 is a nice route, I prefer 55-95-13-12 both ways.
