Default Dash Camera

I've been looking into getting one of those cameras that attaches to the helmet so that I have some record of anything that might happen while riding. There seems to be a lot of choices but I thought that experience would probably be a good thing to look into, so I'm hoping that anyone who has or had such a thing would chime in with their experience.

I'd like to know about brand, image quality, reliability, how long it can record, how it attaches to the helmet or bike, whether it's a nuisance, ...

TIA

I looked into this years ago and never went anywhere with it. Might be time to revisit the idea.

Subbed.

I film using a GoPro Hero attached to the chin of my helmet with a stick-on mount. I use it mostly for YouTube ride footage rather than as a full-time dash cam, but it does a decent job of that too. It captures a wide angle view, easily make out number plates and whatever. I can post some footage examples and of the setup if you like.

Pros: High quality 4K footage, on the helmet it records exactly where you look and if you get off the bike too.

Cons: Expensive outlay, GoPro batteries only last an hour or so (you can wire in a power bank but it's another thing). I carry spare batteries.

A possible better setup might be a 360 degree camere camera like the X5 discreetly mounted on the bike somehow. Also not cheap and I don't know much about those to pass judgement.

Another option is front and rear motorbike dashcams, there's a few on the market that wire into the bike.

I do not have this product, but a few others on the Ducati group do and
say it's a good product... Again, I'm not endorsing or recommending
this, just reporting what I have read....

I run a Garmin 67W stuck to the windshield but its for legal purposes to eliminate he said she said situations in court not for posting rides on social media nothing wrong with that just not what this camera is for.
If it's on the bike it's going to get everything in front if it's on the helmet your natural reaction to a hit is going to be looking away and won't catch anything on coming
or if you just glance for a second at something else not in front and you get hit a cam on the helmet isn't going to pick that up either.

I dislike the cameras attached to a helmet. I wonder what the results would be in an accident.

I have considered the front and rear camera systems. I desire a system that uploads so that if the system is damaged in an accident, the video is still available. Perhaps I am over thinking this?

Looking at it I would think the GoPro mount would snap like a twig and cause zero safety issues. That said, the camera would then bounce down the road likely never to be seen again, taking all the evidence with it...

The INNOVV front and rear system is what I think is the best "motorcycle dash cam" solution. I've been thinking about getting one. Here's somebody (not me) fitting it to their Sportster:

Thanks! This looks interesting. The prices aren't too bad either.

I looked into the Insta360. But then realized that I’m the dangerous ******* and why would I record my criminal activity.

I’m an older GenXer and the ever present screens and recording just rings a Girls on Film vibe.

In today’s metro area’s I can understand and agree to a camera system for safety, at least your loved ones will get paid.
