Default Wheel Alignment

Just got done installing the chrome belt / spocket kit.

How doI make sure that my rear wheel is in alignment?

If you didn't mess with the adjuster nuts on the rear swing arm it should be OK.

Well, HD sells a special alignment tool but I took a simple cloth tape measure (the sewing kind) and passed it thru the gap between the passenger peg bracket and the swingarm. Place the end to the middle of the swingarm bolt, measure to the center of the axle, do the same on both sides. Adust so that the measurements are the same.... make sure to monitor belt tension as well...

The problem with sewing (cloth) tape measures is that they will strech slightly as you pull them tight. I use a straighten out wire coat hanger with a short 90* bend on one end that rests in the dimple of the swing arm bolt. Mark the hanger wire where it's centered on the axle then repeat on the opposite side of the bike. Repeat and adjust as necessary until both sides line up on the mark.

Put a 90 degree bend in a brass welding rod about 2" from the end. On the other end put a small wire tie on the rod and have it tight, but loose enough to slide a little.

Put the short end of the rod in the center of the swing arm bolt. At the rear axle, slide the wire tie until it is in the center of the axle. Go to the other side and see if the distance is the same. If not, adjust until it is.

Just take 2 2x4;s on each side of the rear tire that reach to the font tire.

The measurement from the front tire to that 2x4 will show you if you are on or off.

Well, that 1/16 of a inch only gets larger the further you move outfrom the center of the axle. What you are doing is cocking the tire sideways. You really need to be on the money here, that's why I don't recommend using a cloth tape measure.
