Default shocks

Iride 2 up a lot on my sportster ,i have no power problem but it bottoms out a lot combined weight of 360 lbs,I have the 11 3/4 shocks adjusted all the way,i do not want to use the 13 inch for the way it puts it in the air. Has anyone been through this and if so what did you do to fix the problem? do you think 12 inch 418 progressive shocks would work?

Do you have theregular or heavy duty version? You may need the heavy duty version of the ones you've got. I've got the 13" 412 HD, and even on notch 2/5 or 3/5 on a scale of 5/5 being max, 1/5 being weakest it works with about that much weight just fine. I don't know if it's because they are the HD or because they are the 13" ones.

Your best bet is either 11.5" or 12" Heavy Duty Progressive 412's. I have them on mine and get a much better ride and never bottom out with 2up at 350#.

I asked a tech rep at Progressive Shocks and they recommended the standard for me (not the heavy duty). I weigh 175 pounds and they told me that the heavy duty would be to harsh for me even on the lowest setting.

I'm using the 11.5" shocks. That is what Progressive considers the replacement for the stock 11.75" shocks. Since the shocks are mounted at an angle, there is really less than 1/4" difference in the rear ride height of the bike regardless of which way you go compared to the stock length.

Progressive recommends using the Heavy Duty shocks for rider weights over about 225-250lbs., so if you do a lot of 2up that needs to be considered. I'm using the heavy duties and weigh 210.Riding solo, I still find the best ride in the second notch. If I only rode solo the standard duty should have been fine.

Man, those are some damn ugly looking things and twice the price of Progressives.
If I had looked closer at your avatar, I'd have realized you're just pushing your own merchandise. [:@]

I am letting you decide what to buy. I believe in a educated choice. To look at something with no knowlage about it and make a decision, than this product (cHarley) is not for you. We are for a disurning rider & yes we offer chrome shock covers. The red springs are off the rack and denote manufacturer. I believe the color can shurly be changed. It is a little harder to change the color on the billit parts that are the actual shock but it can be done to suite the customer as we hand taylor each shock while building them for the customer.

We are makeing the best performing shock for HD's bar none. We are not for the person who does not require the best performance or the person who price shops on price alone. We never intended to be, and we are not for everyone. I offer a choice and what any reader does with this choice is up to the individual.

started this post with the question: "Has anyone been through this and if so what did you do to fix the problem?" I answered the question with a solution. By reading cHarley post very carefully, I do not believe you have answered sportster orange question other than say go to the factory as ask yourself, and give advice on what cHarley has done for his completely different application. As for, "Here take a peak:" is "you're just pushing your own merchandise" the purpose is showing any reader a choice and a solution if he wishes. cHarley I do not believe you have asked nor know about our product that you bashed. I take it you will not be buying any of our F-1 shocks for $30k each either? With our list of previous customers in all forms of Motorcycling Racing, Formula One, NASCAR, CART, IRL, Formula Atlantics, SCCA Trans Am, GARRS, ALMS, NHRA, IHRA, AMA, and Short Tracks of all types we do not need to "you're just pushing your own merchandise" . Additionally, the International Race of Champions (IROC), The Barber Dodge Pro Series, and the SCCA Spec Racer Ford Series have chosen Penske Racing Shocks as the shock of choice to run in their competition series, proving their dependability and repeatability. The new 8300's have been developed just for the Harley segment and offered after 1 1/2 years of negotiations and developement by me.

We make solutions and solve problems, whether they are within your budget (cHarley) or style, but that is up to the individual who wrote this post and asked the question. We do not offer the same product as "Progressives" nor do we ever wish to. You do not like a product cHarley, gleen the informantion, store it and you are a better person for it. Thank you for looking.

PS cHarley you are only right down the street from us. There is a suspension shop is in Pompano, FL. Call us anytime and make an appointment and I would be glad to show you the difference. If at that time you choose to make any truthful comment about this subject, it would be greatly appreciated by us as I see you like to post alot. Suspension is a subject overlooked by a majority of Harley riders and we are here to do something about it. See what we do.
