Ok, so after some deep deep soul searchin', I have decided I was making an impulsive decision to get rid of my sportster... For those of you who were not following, I had the ugly stain on the cam cover that HD can not get off, nor will they cover a replacement! Then the speedo fogged over from the inside and had water drops in it!!! But I took her for a ride yesterday all by my self on every back county route in my town and realized... this bike is way too cool to let go. I will just fix what needs fixing when it needs fixing, and enjoy it! HD Motor Co. and its dealers are USELESS, but they have cool motorcycles

Hey dude try my cleaning tip and use oven cleaner if that doesn't work nothing will.....I feel your pain on the speedo glass someday I will take the time and figure out a way to disassembly the speedo, clean the glass and put an anti-fog treatment on it. Wise decision in keeping the Nightster...down the road I think you would regret getting rid of it....it is a sweet ride!
This is how I look at it, if the timing cover stain is gonna make you get rid of your Sporty, that's a shame. I am pretty sure there will be a way to fix. I have the same feeling every once in a while, I want to get a different bike but I cannot find a reason to convince myself for the trade. I am hunting for a second Harley RKC recently and keep my Sportster. Take it easy!
I hope you can resolve the issues with the Sporty quickly. Are you shelving the FatBob for the time being?

Yeah, I am going to wait(mostly cuase no one has one) and see what unfolds, but alas I will do so with out getting rid of the sportster, infact the wife said she had a dream the night before last that she got her own bike and we were riding together, so I may just get her a sporty of her own for xmas!

My wife has an 883C and we've had a great time riding together, so that can definitely work!
Not sure if anyone has made the suggestion to you yet....
Forget trying to clean that stain. Instead, use it as an excuse to black powder coat the covers. PC is pretty inexpensive compared to paint or chrome. Plus, on a Nighty it'd look pretty good.
take the speedo apart and put it back together with a good gasket maker stuff, and antifog on the glass. i actually dont know if its ok to use the gasket stuff for the speedo, anyone else think this could work?
mine never fogs up, but it also doesnt work, and its pretty loose and dangley as it is.
