I did extend the cables and I went with the braided cables. Took the bike on a 200 mile round trip sunday and there was a good variation in my ability to adjust riding position if the skinny butt I have attached to my backside got sleepy or numb. I think this mod is one of the best things for me.
I put my sundowner seat back on today and was not impressed with it once again. I just like the lower style that the stock seat has.

On a side note I looked up the part number of the bars in the parts book and they were listed under multi-fit part # 56563-95 8 3/4" rise and then add the 4" riser on the custom for a total of 12 3/4" bar. Just right for me and just barely under shoulder height when slumped over in my casual bad posture position.
