So, I gather from the above posts that my supposedly stock '93 883 is turning mid 3000's at 65-70 mph?...Bitch seems like she's gonna fly apart at that speed, was just curious about the rpm at hiway speeds.
Shortsport, the 30 tooth is part #40380-04. I got mine from Surdyke Harley online for $50.76. It works fine with the stock belt. The final drive ratio will be 3.80, roughly halfway between the stock 883(4.07) and the 1200(3.50) I don't have any before and after times, But I think the bike may be a little quicker due to the higher gearing keeping the engine in the 'fat' part of the torque curve a little longer. It still has no problem 'holeshotting' my bud's TC88 Heritage, if that helps.

No. If you're on an 883 (stock gearing, etc.) it should be around 3,800 at 70mph in 5th gear. Technically, if you hold an 883 exactly at 4,000 rpm in 5th gear you'll sit around 74mph. So if you're going about 74mph in 5th, you can assume it's at 4,000 rpm.
EDIT: And yes, the 883s do sound like they're breaking when you're going that fast. The 1200s for some reason don't make those sounds, though.
