first off, I am plenty relaxed. I am just responding to some obvious stupid statements. If you have seen some of the fatal motorcycle accidents I have seen because of speed and people on bikes who tried to out run the police you would see where I am coming from. Not coming down on anyone just expressing my opinion. A statement such as "dude just out run them, your on a bike" is not intelligent to say the least. Me being a cop has nothing to do with responding to a rediculous statement or the question that started this thread for that fact. I would have responded that way even if thats not what I did for a living. So relax, I ride a sportster just like you and I have an opinion just like you![:@]

Yeah, wild hog is right. Bike crashes can be pretty ugly. People tend to lose limbs at speed! Although I do speed. I do pull over and pay my tickets as well. And it is unjustified way to high! It's no wonder kids try to just split. Then all the sudden the kid is a crazed felon on the highway. The rice I used to ride was insane! How can they sell that crap if it's a one way ticket to the Judge? Leave us bikes alone! My last ticket was a 72 in a 55. Why would a cop even pull out? Slow day?

Got it today. They put limits way too low, and then hunt for money. What would be a good excuse at the court? It was only +20 kmh, and it is not the fine itself, but insurance rates just crazy here in Canada. Actually, can they get motorcycle's speed with a laser speedgun? Thanks!

Ontario motorcycles places - http://thycomp.com/moto
Our speed limits are designed to slow down traffic to help reduce accidents. As we have hashed out before in other threads...Ontario roads are not your average long stretched roads withclear visibility, we don't have adequate passing lanes or paved shoulders. We do however, have an abundance of blind curves, rock cuts, wildlife, and transport trucks that kill people on a regular basis...not to mention freeways like the 401 inthe Toronto area that is as crazy as any.

Statisitically, a more concentratedoccurance rateis prominent in the larger populated areas, as we all know. Considering statistics are used from the entire province, thelowerspeed limits are only a feeble attempt to reduce mortality rates and strain on our 'free' health care system.

You know the consequences of driving over the limit ... You got caught. Time to take responsibility for your actions.Don't like it? ....Perhaps, you should try talking to your local provincial government to see if you can't voice your opinion aboutincreasing hazards on the road instead of decreasing,so your insurance rates can become morereasonable. That might help raise (or lower... that is a matter of opinion) the standards you are looking for.

Sure, this is all as irritating as Hell!.. Bugs me too ... I often speed a little over the limit.. I don't think there are too many of us that don't. Just haven't been called on it. Been pretty lucky so far. I think I have paid one ticket, in about 30 yrs. But, just because Iknow I could safely drive faster doesn't lead me to believe that EVERYBODY can. Statistics prove that! I have people out there that I love, and I want to see everything done possible to protect their safety.

Problem is, even at these 'stupid' lower speeds, people are still being slaughtered. I just try to stay within the limits of that law so my insurance rate doesn't sky rocket. It works for me. If I blow it ... It's my own dam fault.

I think ElenaP is trying to say that she has no problem with paying the ticket, but wants to get out of thepoints that will be marked onher license, which in essencewill most likelycause the insurance company to raiseher rates. I think all you can do is go to court to admit you were in the wrong, and ask the judge if he/she will lower the fine so you do not get points on your license. Nothing wrong with trying.
Even a zero point ticket here in Canada goes on your driving record for 3 years, get 2 or more of these in that 3 yr span and insurance rates can easily increase 15% from our already insance levels. FYI. I pay $1,300 a year for my 06 883C and have clean driving record and 10 years continous bike coverage (mind you i'm only 29 yrs old and they promise a $500 break when I'm 30, phew)

Unfortunately we are all caught in the insurance scam. Pay money into it when nothing happens and when something does, then pay more. That's the deal and we all know it. You just have to be a good rider for a few years and it might go back down. It's the price of fun. Deal.

Erhugger hit the nail on the head! While I can feel for elenap, it is not an issue with the local law enforcement! They have posted speed limits for everyone to see, and they obviously enforce said limits, so the onus is on the rider/driver to obey and avoid being ticketed. HOWEVER, insurance is nothing more than a legal scam!! It sounds like it is not as controlled in Canada as it is in the states, but it's wild everywhere. There should be some formula for rate increases that makes sense to all involved, like getting your rates raised if you have been insured for less than one year or something along those lines. Myself personally, having been with Allstate for 18 years now for all my stuff (3 autos, 1 bike, 1 rv, home and life), I don't even want to try and calculate how much money I've paid them. In all that time I think I've claimed 2 windshields on my different cars/trucks, but I'm sure they would raise my rates if I got an excessive speed or reckless driving citation! BASTARDS! That being said, I have not had a single ticket since I was 17 years old, and I plan to keep that up so I dont have to go down that road. Sorry for the long rant, didn't plan it that way...

I don't know about Ontario, but in Alberta with my insurance company, I am allowed 5 demerit points before my insurance rates rise. My insurance coverage includes all hazards except vandalism and I only pay $453 per year on my '06 XL1200C. Sounds like you should do some rate shopping...

Sorry not to sympathize with you. If you know what the outcome will be and you still choose to do it. Enough said !!
