I'd always heard that sporty's get up to 150 miles on a tank of gas. My 02 got less than 100 on my first tank since I got the bike a week or so ago. Is this normal? The 02 has the smaller tank so maybe that's it.. or maybe I'm driving it wrong?
I have an 06 that is now a 1200 but when it was an 883 i could get 55 mpg on the road. It would do 127 miles before the reserve had to be kicked in. It has the 3.5 gal tank. It will be interesting to see how it does now.
After I ran about 2 miles on reserve I filled up and it held about2.8 gallons. I don't use the pop off thing at the pump with my bike. I sit there and slowly fill the tank so I can top it off real nice. I'll watch it closer this time.. maybe I miscalculated the miles.
I fill up at 80 miles. On a trip, the bike will go considerably further before needing fuel/switching to reserve. But, zipping around town Ihaverun outin less than 90 miles. Also, the bike may get significantly better mileage as you put more miles on it.
Some folks complain about the short range. But for me, it is just about right on trips to stop every 80 miles or so. And, as the ladies say, "Beauty knows no pain." You have the bonus of having the best looking tank that Harley makes.

Well I WAS mostly zipping around town today.. stop and go traffic.. blowing my pipes every chance I got.. I'm sure that had something to do with it.
My 2000 883 has the 3.3 gallon tank and is pretty much stock, performance wise. Ithasn't had aStage 1 or anyother performancemodsdone to it. I'm consistentlygetting better than 140 miles on a tankbefore I have to switch to reserve. Maybe your right, you may have justmiscalculated. Let us know how you make out on the next tank that you calculate.
The mileage you get will depend on the bikes state of tune, how aggressively you ride, and the type of conditions in which you ride.
I live out in the 'boondocks' where they isn't any stop and go or city traffic, and I use my bikes for cruising, so there isn't a lot of 'wide open throttle' acceleration.
My 2005 1200C constantly got 50 MPG, and that is running Screamin' Eagle "E" 551 cams which flow quite a bit more fuel mixture to the cylinders than your stock camshafts.
