My First Harley
I had an old (1977) Sea Ray 19 footer that guzzled gas and that I didn't want anymore I also had an old (1997 with 200,000 miles) Dodge Dakota pick up truck that guzzled gas and that I didn't want anymore and that I bought simply to tow my gas guzzling boat that I didn't want anymore. I had been trying to sell my boat for four years with no luck...none. I decided to sweeten the dealso I hooked the boat up to the truck, took a picture of them both and offered them as a package deal for sale or trade for a motorcycle on Craigslist. I didn't state it in my ad, but the only bike that I really wanted was a Harley...any Harley of equal or near equal value. I'm 42 and my rice burner days are long gone.
I got a phone call one day from a guy saying he needed a truck for himself and the old boat would be great for his son's first boat. He said he had a motorcycle to trade. I asked him "what kind?", while I'm thinking to myself "please say it's a Harley, please say it's a Harley!" And he says "it's a 1997 Harley Davidson Sportser 1200 Custom with 3,300 miles on it. I got it from the original owner in 2001 with 350 miles on it. I don't use it anymore. Are you interested?"
DING DING DING!!! JACKPOT!!! (Well, that's what I was thinking...I maintained my composure.)
We checked out each others vehicles, liked what we saw and did the deal in one day. No cash changed hands, just titles, paperwork and handshakes.
I slapped a plate on that sucker and rode it home like I stole it. I'm sure I wassmiling all the way, probably looking like an escaped mental patient.
It's a great bike. The paint is mint. There are a few chrome things to replace or have re-chromed,but nothing that I can't handle. It's a strong, reliable motor with little mileage on it. I believe it is all stock except for louder pipes. (Nice!) He also threw in a genuine HD windshield, an HD bike cover and leather saddlebags.
It took me 30 years, but I own a Harley. I smile every time I fire that sucker up or crank the throttle. There is nothing else like it.
Life is good.

Hi everyone. I've been reading this forum since I got my bike back in July and I figured it's time to register and join in on the fun.
