Normally, Im getting my weekend speed fix in the winter from the Mustang. Most times early December brings on the salt and I usually wait a bit for rain to wash it off, before it’s piled high again. In mild winters our roads can get slick from over salting, like a tar & chip without the tar. Mind the budget.
In the summer, after storms the north face always holds tree debris and a sneaky wet spot or two. However, no amount of awareness can stop the chill and being heavy clothed/gloved dims the levers and the riding experience IMO.
That's what I was thinking - SNOWMOBILE. Cold weather riding isn't as enjoyable as warm weather riding but I've ridden when I've had to as low as in the 20's. Avoid snow and ice takes to fun out of it.
H-D used to manufacture snowmobiles during their AMF years.
I attended a motorcycle snow hill climb a bunch of years ago. As you can imagine, it was cold out. One of the younger guys that was working the event had that Snow suit on, said he found it at a swap meet for like $20. He was tall and lanky, I think he said it was a medium, very stylish!!!!!! I own the matching windbreaker, from the '76 collection. My buddy says I am AMF AF when I wear it. My memory sucks, but pretty sure I bought it on this Forum, had to get the elastic in the sleeves replaced, but that was it. Cool jacket for vintage events.
And back to the OP, depends on how far, is the sun out and do we have a reason to go for a ride. I have done Toy Runs in NYC in single digits, the kids where waiting on us. Come February if I get a dry road and over 30 with sunshine, I have been known to hit the road. My Flathead is pretty good for a warm but sloppy day, she doesn't get baths so a little road salt is not going to hurt anything. The salt would have get through all of the oil!?!?!??!
That said I am sick of the cold and wish I was up to snow birding and hanging in southern Florida right now.
