hi, i have a pair of 412 progressive 11" but i often see on other sposrtsers on magazines web etc progressive shocks that look a bit different i mean you can see "less" spring because the bottom part is a bit different, so i googled pics of 412's and as i expected this particular model came up next to my model, i attached the pic of mine and the pic of the other "unknown" model (in the middle)to see if you can help me find out what ive got on, also the spring on mine looks like it has more turns
I went to Progressive's web site and it looks like the new412's look like the shock on the right side of the 3 in the pic. Looks like the spring is longer then they was befor. I take it this must be a new design.
I will be ordering new 412's soon I hope the longer spring is some kind of improvement. I did notice the 440's look a lot like the
short spring 412's...
Mine are black 11"...Right now they are covered up by my saddlebags, so this is the only pic I have of them...They are the regular shocks, not the Heavy Duty, and I count five "rings" between the upper and lower covers.
i found the serial # on the spring and it matches the progressive data pdf, weird, i still think mine look different, check the files attached, what do you think? can u still read the number on yours?
The middle shock in the pic. just has a different chrome springcover that is turned up vs. down covering up partsome of the coils on the spring. These cupswere used on older mfr. shocks and is common on the HD versions, I've had 11" 412s, and 11.5" 412s one had the cup that covered the cam adjuster and the other pair had the cover that covered part of the spring and left the cam exposed.
There is no difference in the amount of coils on the shock spring just depends on the length you have. The chrome covers just seem to vary based on how long ago the shock was made whether they face up coverig soem of the springor cover the cam and have adj. nothces in them. All of the black shocks except those for Dynas for some reason do not have bottom covers and the cam adj. is exposed.

Well i think its ok then, just a little difference in the bottom part, dunno which ones look better anyway now i have these, they have travelled a long way to get to me so ill keep them for a while [8D]
I cald 'Eastern Performance' to find out if they had a change in the new 412 Shocks. I got a lady named Susan, she didn't know, she said I will check in to it and call you back, in about 20 min she did. Susan said she didn't call Progressive directly, but she did call her Distributor, they said that soon the new 412's would be sent, and the number for the 412 I want will be ..412-4064C.. for a 12 1/2" standard, chrome, for my 06 1200-C
She was told the new 412 had a longer spring.
She said to keep looking at ther web site, and soon the new number will come up.
So I dont know for sure whats going on. I think I will call Progressive tomorrow and see what I can find out.
I got this straight from Progressive.
'capttawes' is right. the new number 412 shock do not have a longer spring. For my 06 1200-C 12 1/2" standard, chrome, the old numb is
#412-4007C this will work on all XL, but not the 'Nightster' They had to movea limiterclip on the shock because it would rub somthing on the side of the Nightster, so they gave the new shock a new number
# 412-4064C The new numb will work on all XL but if you dont have a Nightster the old numb will work fine. He said the old and the new number shock are the same, they did not change any thing but the limiter clip.
Remember if you have a Nightster you need the new number shock...
