I'm 185 lbs. The previous owner was no larger than I.
Have the same bike & weigh the same and I don't have that problem ever

05 883 C - Was a bear to get that final turn to close it all the way but it never leaked the couple of times I didn't realize that it wasn't fully seated. Have switched to the temp gauge - makes it easier to open and close plus lets me know what temp I'm running at.

Thanks Vascik, even us newbies can come up with good ideas now and then. But sometimes you just have to sit and look at it long enough to figure it out LOL

I have to say the oil dipstick is hard to get out of the tank on my wife's '04. It doesn't have the grooves like mine does. Just slick metal to turn.

CHECK IT OUT!

Been reading manual on 2008 XL 1200 -to check oil dipstick properly, engine must be hot,no one sitting on bike, bike leaning on kick stand.

My 1994 XL manual saysto check oil, engine hot, bike must beheld UPRIGHT off kick stand.

Wonder how many people areunder filled their later modeloil tanks...

Good thing I read the manual.

I had a 2007 1200XLC for a year and never had a problem. However, removing and replacing the cap was always a pain. If I still had it I would buy one with temp gage as someone else suggested.

I have a buddy of mine he rides a 1200R and this happens to him all the time, but he is alot larger than me so he thinks his leg pushes on it and magically pops up, no solution though.
