Default Help with handlebars!

Hey everyone.

I just (yesterday) purchased a 1999 XL1200 Custom. I am looking for some different types of handlebars. I like the look of mini apes....but are they comfortable? I have drag bars on it right now. I previously owned an electra glide standard....so I am used to stock touring bars.

Any input would be great. Thanks!

Comfortable is subjective and dependent on riding style. I have mini-apes on 3" risers and am very comfortable, stock bars or drags require you to lean fwd. to reach unless ya got long arms. Touring bars or pullbacks are comfy too. I prefer sitting upright or leanend back a little when riding personally. Mini-apes may put youin the position you had on your E-glide perhaps just a little higher. My hands sitbelow shoulder hgt. wiht my steup and bar position.

I love the looks of the mini apes. I am about 6 foot 1 and I have long arms and legs. I originally was gonna get a wide-glide...but the price on this 1200 was so good, i couldnt resist.

I also prefer to lean back a little bit while riding...at least longer distances. About how much would it cost to have them change out the bars and wiring and all that?

DIY costs around $300. Cables, wires etc.. I did it for my wife she loves it.

Cost me just over $300 to do my setup (in my garage), will cost $800-1200 from dealer or shop (I'm not kidding either, material cost at full retail around $3-400, then they add 8 hrs. labor at about $50-60hr. at least or flat rate it)

It is very easy to do, just make sure when you do it to pump-bleed the front brake well and keep that brake fluid off your rotor. Also make sure you use the right DOT numbered fluid.
