Picked up my bike from the dealer yesterday. 1200 conversion done using SE reverse dome pistons and boring the juggs. Carb re-jetted for the larger displacement. Already had the SE intake, V&H straightshots with the baffles cut down to 4" and SE Race Ignition. Compression with these pistons increase from 8:1 to 10:1.
Cranked the bike up, sound is totally different. Deeper tone and alot louder, seems to rev quicker with the higher compression. Pulled out the parking lot, huge amount of additional torque was immediately notocable. Had to keep the RPMs low due to breakin and did not twist the wrist my wrist hard, but the pull was still very strong. My bike always pulled the hardest in the higher RPM range, looking forward to completing breakin so I can really see what she got. My buddy asked me when I got home was it worth the $1000.00. DEFINETLY!!!
FlyinJ,..........Please keep us updated on the conversion. Especially interested in your oil consumption and, of course, your power increase. Ride safe
Are you still running stock 883 heads? Did you do any head work?
I did mine a few months ago using HD dished pistons and new 1200 cylinders. I had some work done to my 883 heads but did not change to larger valves. If I had my time back I believe that I might have gone for the full SE top end kit to have flat top pistons and 1200 heads. Time will tell.
