Gremlins have taken over my Sportie. On my way to work this morning, strange noises started comming from the front wheel. Both front wheel berrings were seized. The mechanic discovered that the belt was disintegrating, the ribs are separating.I just replaced the belt in August.Since I bought the bike in Aug.06(25,000 miles now),there's been a series of problems including a water related ignition problem.Don't get me wrong this is not a rant.I've been generaly happy with the Sportie,it just seems to be one thing followed by another. On the UPSIDE my wife sayed TRADE IT IN.Can you beet that! While I was waiting I looked at an 08 FXDL with custom paint. The salesman said $11,000 after trade in.Taking the wife with me Saturday to see about financing.
Sorry about the problems... even Rolls Royce has a service department...
But if'n you aint happy... ya' gotta do what ya' gotta do....
Knock on wood... haven't had even a little problem with mine... damn... I lied.... I've got a neutral light that stays most of the time.... but that's it....
Any way... good luck with the new purchase and hope you have trouble free riding ahead of ya'
It's more of a reliability thing.I use the bike for commuting(100 miles) to work. The problems seem to occure on work days, like yesterday.Warranty mite cover parts but not the lost income.A few of my friends ride Sporties, haven't had as many problems.I still believe the Sportser is one of Harley's best.
Probably wasn't a very well kept bike from the git-go. I personally would fix it, its alot cheaper than a payment. Sounds like you only have a few hundred bucks in repair work (having someone else do the work) Eventually you will sort out all the problems and have a reliable ride.

I wonder if you'll be happy with a DL after the Sportie. The D or DX (if you can find one) might be a little more to your liking, handling wise. The DL is a nice bike but handles rather like a pot bellied pig.
Hey... The Sportster is not the ONLY Harley.... It is just the BEST Harley [8D].... No.... In all seriousness.... If I was in your shoes... I would probably be looking at another bike as well.... Good luck to you friend.
