Default Need Advice

I recently just took my 07 XL in to the dealer for the third time in three weeks for a leak from the primary. Both times on the first two trips they replaced all the primary seals. On the third, I showed where I thought the leak was coming from, the center seam on the bottom of the primary. They said that it couldn't be leaking from there, but after checking it out, it was. They told me it would be a couple of days to pull the engine and reseal that area.

I called today, since it has been 5 days, and was told they still had the bike tore down and were waiting to hear from Harley because they had to take pictures, because two of the five bolts that were supposed to be there to hold it together WERN"T THERE!!!!

Now that leaves felling a little concerned as to what else could be wrong? What is the MoCo responsibilty?? I"m leaning towards talking to the dealer and see what they will do to get me in another bike.

Has any one else run into this problem??

Thanks

what yr. bike if its under a warranty you should be fine ,just keep records of everything. I wouldn't worry to much, just a fluke in a imperfect world. I would be surprised if there was a bunch of missing bolts. Keep us posted ,hopfuly you have one of the "good" dealers. P.S> where, who's the dealer?

I would give the Dealer a chance to honor the Warranty and make it right ... if they don't hit them both barrells is your hard earned money spent.. contact whoever it takes to get it right ... I hear all these Dealer horror stories and many are justified. But are still Honest people out there if work with them...

Had a friend with same issue...turned out primary was warped. Dealer installed a new primary and issue was solved.

You won't have much success in just getting a new bike. The dealer will be more than happy to trade bikes with you. But it will be a straight up trade with no consideration given to the mechinical issues. I'd say if they correct the problem, be happy and ride free!!

What he said.
The stealer can't do warranty if the MoCo does not approve the warranty. It's standard policy, tear it open, take pics, get approval, fix it.
Ask the stealer for a loaner if you have to ride, it may take a week for warranty approval and then another week for the repair.

I'll type it anyway, don't be paranoid, the bike may still last 100,000 miles, give it a chance.

Ditto that. They owe you a fix, but it's not going to be a replacement bike. Keep good records, check up on their work, and hold their feet to the fire to get it right. One problem doesn't mean the bike is a dud...give them a chance to get it right.

Well after some more alarming news on the primary, the dealer offered to take the bike back at the purchased price and gave me a great deal on an 08 FXDC.

I enjoyed my time on my sportster, but 2-up with the wife was getting cramped, and I'm lovin' that big 96 engine!!!!
