My wife loves her '07 Nightster and likes the look of the orange SE plug wires. The stock wires are unequal length and terminated differently. The SE wires are equal length and terminated the same for both wires. It also appears that the SE wires are no where near long enough to route the rear wire like stock (through the backbone).
Has anyone done the SE wires? How did you route them? Any pics? Any suggestions are appreciated!
That's what I thought originally. All of the boxes were the same, and I saw a post from XL forum with the same questions. Worse yet, the plugs are factory terminated and can't be shortened. The pic in the HD part manual also shows the wires as the same length with matching boots.
I did some measuring since my original post. The wires are 5" longer than the stock front wire, but 4" shorter than the stock rear wire.
I'm probably gonna take 'em back, but they'd sure look good on the bike if I could figure out how to route them.
Just looks a bit goofy. The front wire is way too long, and the rear wire is just about a straight shot to the coil. Since they're orange, it's really noticable, and noticable was the point of the whole changeover on the first place. Was kind of hoping to get more of the look we used to get using the yellow Accels on our small blocks - if you got 'em all lined up in the loom it was a work of art, LOL!
I might "hide" some of the extra front wire with some of the black wire loom cover and tuck it up under the tank. With the Nightster's lifted tank, it's just too visible a diff between the cans.
Thanks for the picture mfuchs2004, I purchased the SE orange wires also, but have not installed them yet. Did you remove the gas tank to change the wires?
Take those crappy SE wires back and get a refund and order a set of Magnecores to replace them. They not only willfit right but they are 10 times better wires and will last as long as the bike.
Thanks for all the input folks! That's what makes this forum so cool. I haven't decided whether or not to take them back, but I'm sure I won't have to take the tank off to route them this way. Gonna be some tight work if I don't, but it'll sure save an hour.
