Default Extensions

No not hair extensions (although I am forehead challenged). I replaced the dragbars on my Sporty with standard sporty bars but left the risers on. Well I knew I'd have to get cablesand brake line, but what the heck do you do with the short electricial wires? I could soilder extensions or new wires in place but I was wondering if you might have a better idea. Thanks

Either solder or just get a kit (the easy/best way)on Ebay, JP cycles, Dennis Kirk ets. Just search for wiring ext. kits. They plug right in using the pin/socket connectors to your factory wiring. I should've done this on mine (may still later) but rather soldered in extensions which is more time consumming/permanent.

Many thanks for the answers. I think I'll extend the wires as I don't want the plugs showing.

Solder and heat shrink tubing is fine (none of it will show anyway as your joints should be made near the connector under the tank not up near the riser/bars) but just as and FYI the pin/socket connectors as used in extension kits with heat shrink over them will be as thin or thinner than a solder joint (basically they're same thickness as the the 18g wire used). I'm actaully thinking of ditching my large block plugs under the tank and using the pin/sockets instead to route the wiring a little neater and less bulky.
The only reasonI suggested conectors is in the event you change bars in the futureor run wires inside the bars (which is where mine are hidden)as it makes it easy to change/unplugwithout cutting and re-soldering since that equals 24 solder joints when soldering in extensions.

Thanks again for the insight to the wire extensions. I'm going with the pin style. Just wondering is it safe to drill into stock bars to run the wires inside? Thought as long as I'm trying to clean up the bike I might as well do a better job.

As for driling, I know lots of guys do it and make out fine, just debur the inside of the holes some so that you dont cut the wires pulling them through. I purchased my bars already drilled at the controls dimples and between the risers.
