Default New handlebars,cut wires???

I bought a new set of handlebars for my 08 RoadGlide. They are Roland Sands Gliders.

I want to hide my wiring in them.

No extensions are necessary from stock.

I took the wiring harneses out of the bike for both sides of the handlebar switches. I am assuming the only way I can route the wires thru the handlebars is to cut the connectors off, pull the wires thru, and then solder the connectors back (these are the connectors that connect to the wiring harness inside the fairing).

There is 12 wires on one side, 10 on the other.

Before I cut, is there any other way? I thought maby I could pull the pins out of the connector, then pull the wires and stick the pins back in but they dont appear to come out.

Any other options, or should I cut?

Thanks for your time,

Doug

Un plug each molex connector from the socket plug and then you should be able to run the wires through. Molex pin connectors are at end of the wire in plug or socket in fairing.
I had to extend my wires for my apes install. Heres a link to that write up. Hope it helps. If not feel free to pm me.

+1...simply pull the wires out of the connector housings, pull your wires, reinsert the wires into the connectors. Information on how to work with the different types of connectors is in the back of your Service Manual. DO NOT CUT YOUR WIRES!

If you need extensions...I like Namz. Have used them several times and they work well. Some of the guys don't like them, but I've never had an issue with them.

LIke Tony...I'll take a PM if you have additional questions.

Good luck...

Steve

I used Novello wire extensions and they are excellent.

I didnt like the extensions. I simply stagger cut and soldered each line with 18ga wire. Problem with wire extenders is that they leave the metal connectors all in one area which makes for one hard stiff metal area that you need to snake through bars. Stagger cut and solder and you will be fine.

There was enough stock wire to pull through my 12" monkey bars then add the extensions after.

Man, lucky you! If I coulda done that I would have gone that route. I have 13" Prime Apes and my wires didn't make it to bottom. Good point though.
No need cutting if you don't have to.

That's a true statement if you are installing a set of the longer (higher) bars...I installed Wild 1 Chubbys (WO575) which are not classified as 'apes,' per se. I was able to disassemble the plugs, pull the OEM cables through the bars, add 4" extensions, connect the connectors. I rerouted my cables because of audio...only reason I needed extensions in the first place. Anyway...my 'lump' was not in the bars and I was able to put some 1" shrink wrap over it and tuck it into a safe spot.

If my OEM cables (without extensions) would not of reached the end of the access hole I would have never tried to feed the cables with extensions installed! You brought up an excellent point!

I'm getting ready to install my WO576 14" apes on my 12-FLHX. I'm going to take the stock wires and check to see if they make it through the bars and install the controls to the new bars. I know the wires for me will not be long enough, but if they can reach out the bottom of the bars just a little, I can solder extensions from there without having any solder points in the bars.

Sounds like you will be able to just run the oem wires through your bars with enough left over to re-connect. good luck and remember to post any results. So the help others.
