Default Help with Wheel Choice

I am planning on upgrading the wheels on my 08 nightster. What are your opinions on 21 inch front and 18 inch rear. I can't decide between all black (rim, hub, spokes, 80 spoke) or black rims, hubs and candy red spokes.

Does anyone have experience with these companies. www.hdwheels.com or www.landmarkmfg.com ? Pricing is about the same for both places.

Thanks for the help.

Just an FYI on using the 18 in the rear.... I'm thinking about that as well on my 1200C but here's something to think about. The 18" rim uses a 150/70 tire which is only 10mm in hgt. difference (not 20mm)over the stock 150/80 on the 16" rim. This roughly translates into a tire being .50" taller on the 18" rim than the stock tire was on the 16"and depending on tire make some like Metzlers and Avon run a little taller yet for their metric measurement (I know my front Avon 21 is about 1/4" taller for the same size dunlop). The bottom line is the bike will sit up a little higher and the wheel diameter with short shocks or even some longer ones when at full travel will very likely result in the tire bottoming out not only on the fender but the wire track underneathand ECM compartment thats in your fender.

Just something to keep in mind. In theory the 16" to 18" swap should come out even with correct tire size. but it does not when doing the math so you end up with a larger diameter wheel overall and have to think about clearance on low bikes. Now if you could find a 150/60 tire that would balance out almost the same.

Well what you think looks good is all that matters, but lets get down to the important stuff shall we? I call dibs on the stock rims if you sell em!!![sm=signs003.gif]

Thanks for the reply. I am doing all kinds of research before I buy to make sure I get it correct the first time.

I will post if I get it done.

Thanks I plan on using HD wheels. The twisted spokes look sick, not sure if I would get the same effect in candy red.

Did you go with the 60 spoke?

Nice bike.

Those twisted spokes are sweet! I'd like to upgrade to a 21" twisted spoke front wheel and ditch the 21" stock wheel with it's nickel plated spokes...

Thanks for your input. I ordered the wheels yesterday, 40 spoke. 3 weeks to wait.

Front : 21X 2.15 inch Apollo SL vivid black, vivid black hub, candy red spokes. Metzeler 90/90 tire

Rear : 18 X 4.25 inch Apollo SL vivid black, vivid black hub, candy red spokes. Metzeler 150/70tire.

I dicided to go with standard spokes, even though the twisted spokes look sick.

I will post pics once done.
