I watch mine. I pump the gas really slowly (only about half pressure on the "trigger") and really watch it. Don't want any gas on the paint.

I pull that big sleave back and watch all the gas go in. I go very slow and get gas on my hands every time. I keep the paint dry however.

You're supposed to use the match to look in the tank to make sure it's full.

I do both...and I'm honestly thinking about Friscoing my tank to get the extra mileage out of it.

It shouldn't take that long to fill the tank. I watch it and pump it manualy without the use of the auto shut off. On another note to dannyZ71. Get off the bike when filling up. Should the unspeakable happen that a splash fall on the hot motor and a flare up occur, at least you have an escape route made a little easier and, you would shorten your reaction time to it.Ride safe.
