Default conversion help

Hey guy's. Just did the 883/1200 conversion on my wifes 04 883C. I used new HD cylinders and the SE pistions. She has the SE air cleaner and SE slip ons. I just have 2 questions. What would be the recommended jet sizes for the carb and should I switch to the 1200 ignition module or leave it as is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did the conversion with the V-Twin kit, I also did the SE air cleaner, new pipes, SE ignition, and a 185 jet. It has the original meter jet. I took it in to have it dyno tuned and the wrench was inpressed. Maxpower 63hp,max torque 66. Stock 883 is about 46hp.

Have you rejeted with a high flow A/C before the conversion?? If you did, theres a decent chance those jet's will work out just fine. I have a mikuni carb on my bike, but if I remember a real common keihin rejetting was a 45 pilot and 180 main, or atleast that will be a good starting point, the only way to tell for sure is to try jets and see how they run based on your altitude and environmental conditions. As for the ignition, the 883 ignition will work and get by, but will be more prone to pinging, especially if you've also increased compression with the pistons. Some guys will manually retard the 883 ignition by a few degrees to closer match the 1200 ignition curve. The stock 1200 module will most likely give you a pretty noticable performance boost, especially under hard throttle, but depending on your funds, like I said the bike will run decent with the 883 ignition if needed. Otherwise there's the SE module, and a number of other aftermarket ignitions. I run a dyny 2000i module on mine, and I think for an 04 you can use the dyna tc-88 module which I hear is also a little more flexible than using the SE module. Check out xlforum.net website, they have a page dedicated to electrical and ignitions, giving details on various ignitions, and what settings work well.

Did the Stock HP drop in the newer models> in 1996 the stock 883 was putting out 57 brake HP at 6000 rpm and 53 lb/ft or torque @ 4500rpm.
The stock 1200 put out 66 brake HP @5200 rpm and 72lb/ft torque @4000 rpm.
That info came directly from my 1996HD owners manual.

Elliot, I suspect that the numbers in your manual are not SAE RWHP but engine. There was a HP increase in 04 on the 1200's when the Beull heads were added and that brought the SAE RWHP up to around 57.

Here is a link to a dyno chart in HD's SE book that compares a stock 1200 to a SE-1 1200.
Click "Continue" and look on the bottom of page 23 in the pop-up window. They also show the dyno chart for a 98-03 stock 1200 in there someplace .... BTW, it's not even close to 65rwhp
