Hello again, all. This may be somewhat of a noob question, but I am kinda (had my first bike going on a year now--a 2005 XL 1200C).
I currently have stage one done (air cleaner, carb rejetted andpipes). I am thinking about upgrading my ignition system and am wondering if I'll get a noticeable performancegain out of it. I realize it won't be anything drastic...I'm thinking of doing the module/coil/plugs/wires. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
A better ignition will help. It won't give gobs of hp, but, will help in starting, quicker throttle responce and better overall performance. I went with a single fire unit like the dana, it's fully adjustable for fron and rear cylenders. Check 'em out.
I have head teh ignition upgrade would not be a cost effective upgrade on stage 1 unless you wanted to increase the rev limit. I think the stodk '05 1200 Custom (what I have also) is 6k - penty for myriding.
An increse in rev limit is just one thing you can do. Tha Dana unit also gives you the ability to set the timeing on front and back cylinder at different settings. and being a single fire unit, works much better than the stock set-up.

+1
On your bike, the SE Ignition module really doesn't do anything more than raise the rev limiter. Depending on the brand, a tunable single fire ignition module will provide adjustable ignition base timing, advanced curves, longer duration spark fire, offset cylinder timing, an adjustable rev limiter in 100 RPM increments, a 1, 2 or 3 revolution spark delay on startup to eliminate hot start kickback, etc. One noticable difference with these units is a much faster "ready to ride" engine following a cold engine startup.
I'm running the Daytona Twin-Tec module, it's also sold by Crane Cams under their label, and wish I had installed it sooner.
