If you are experiencing a shudder, stutter, roughness, etc. does it go away as soon as you get up some speed?

Is it possible that you are not taking off with enough throttle and lugging it a little, or is the ignition actually cutting out?
If you are experiencing a shudder, stutter, roughness, etc. does it go away as soon as you get up some speed?

I was pulling out into traffic and really got into it in first gear, but then all of a sudden it started to spit and choke like it was running out of gas. Then I shifted into second and it drove fine. Two people told me that if you get to high of RPM in first geat that it will do this so you will not blow up your motor?
Can somebody tell me if that is true or is there another reason or do I have to take it to the dealers, cause something is wrong with the bike....
It's an 08 XL1200L sportster.
