Can there be a problem with the rev limiter coming on too soon?
I experience this almost everyday, but not everytime I leave from a stop. Seems to happen most when I have an audience. But, seriously, my bike does that little stutter thing, only in first gear, and at less than twenty mph.

Is it possible that you are not taking off with enough throttle and lugging it a little, or is the ignition actually cutting out?
If you are experiencing a shudder, stutter, roughness, etc. does it go away as soon as you get up some speed?

Nope. It kinda lurches as I am reaching speed. Just a quick, almost split second kind of a deal. But, if/when it does it, it won't stop doing it until I shift to second, even if it really isn't time to yet...
Needless to say, I don't like it.
Can sombody tell me if this is normal, I talk to a couple of people and they almost said the samething. I was pulling out into traffic and really got into it in first gear, but then all of a sudden it started to spit and choke like it was running out of gas. Then I shifted into second and it drove fine. Two people told me that if you get to high of RPM in first geat that it will do this so you will not blow up your motor?
Can somebody tell me if that is true or is there another reason or do I have to take it to the dealers, cause something is wrong with the bike....
It's an 08 XL1200L sportster.
Thanks

The rev-limiter kicks in at about 40 or so. It's possible you bounced it if you were into it hard.
