Default black pipes

I really like the looks of black pipes on a bike and have had them on many of my bikes. Only thing is I am to cheap to get them the right way you know powder coating or actually buy and pay for black pipes from the manufacture. So I have always painted mine. I used Rustoleum high heat flat black for grills. I wanted to go a little higher class black on my new Shortshots. So ordered more expensive exhaust paint from Dennis kirk. (36.00 for 3 cans) Worst paint i ever used came out in splatters no matter how much i shook it. I then tried VHT paint. even baked it in the oven just like the instructions said to. 1st ride my pants leg rubbed it off. I went back to the $4.00 a can Rustoleum needed no speial work, looks great was able to ride my bike a few hours after i put it on and not one scratch in the black pipe paint. So if you are thinking about painting your pipes like I did save your self a lot of time and money and use the Rustoleum High heat. I saw a set a Shot shot blacks on a Nightster today both my wife and i think my painted ones looked as good if not better.

man... for 36 bucks you prob could have had your shields powder coated... depending on the shield that is right around where i have charged... post some pics... i am all about cheap mods! if the paint was rubbing off i take it you did nto prep and sand the surface... that is why the would recomend baking them.. it allows the paint to truely adhear to the metal... chome would act as a wall between the paint and the metal... hell i say use the rustolium... 1200* paint and it will work just fine! plus touch ups are cheap and easy... i have done whole motors in 1200* degree black... did one in 500*... only one... never again... only the high temp stuff from now on [:'(]
