Default Engine warmed up ?

Without a temp gauge like in a car how do you tell when the engine is warmed up enough to get on it ? It's been cold here or I should say still cold. When I leave work it is a very short distance (1/8 mile) to the highway. So I am concerned that she will be ok as I have to blend in with the traffice at 65 mph.
Can't be good for her when the engine is cold ? I use 20w-50 Amsoil.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I wait until I can't comfortably hold an open palm on the cylinder cooling fins, usually one to two minutes depending on the temp.

I pull the choke for about 20 sec then half choke, It's its not warm enough in about 2-3 mins I just leave it on half choke and head down the road a bit then the choke uselly vibrates to the closed postion and everything is fine.

I hope not. Tha manual says give it 30 sec full choke, then go easy a mile or two at 1/2 choke. That is pretty much what I do unless it is in the 30s, then I take the car

Upon waking up in the morning, do you hit the floor running? Not likely. Same applies to the bike. Take it easy for the first few miles. Go through the gears easy. Let all the parts have time to mesh together. They will appreciate it.

Since mine is FI, I let mine warm up while I put my helmet and then my gloves on. If it is 40ish I bring the bike out of my shop, start iton the sidestand then go back into the shop and get my jacket, gloves and helmet, this probably triples the warm up time. I have about a 1.5 mile ride through 25 mph roads to the highway.

A minute or so is all thats required, then just take it easy for a mile or two and you should be fine.
