mounting brackets

I just got a set of sissy bar mounting brackets for the Sportster. Didn't realize how big and ugly they are untilI actually had them in my hand. Has anyone tried cutting some of the e3xcess metal off of them to make them look a little better and have them match the size of the sissybar a bit beter? Would this make them too weak to support a passenger? It looks to me as if there would still be plenty of strength there.

just my .02 i think they are that long for a reason. which sissy bar did you get,

i got the mini lowboy its pretty tall on my bike but thats what i wanted
