Need a brake expert. My buddy got a 2005 883. After riding about 12 miles the rear wheel starts to drag and then locks hard. Even if not using the rear brakes. Wait for about 30 minutes and it will move again. We put on a new caliper, disk and brake pads. Rode about 12 miles and it locked up again. The disk is really hot. It must expand and the brake pads lock it. The plunger is fully extended. The brakes work fine for a while. What allows the fluid to go back to the master cylinder. Any info would be appreciated.
Can you move the caliper side to side a bit by hand? When thebrake is cool, you should be able to pry the pads off the disc. Be sure to pump the brake lever to bring them back in contact before you drive off. It is possible the caliper or other pad hardware was not assembled correctly.
I'd say take the master off and flush it out real good. sounds likeyou got muck in the return port. would also be a good idea to take the brake line and caliper off as well and flush everything out real good. i had the same thing happen with an old kawasaki of mine......old brake fluid gelled up clogging the return port resulting in the brake not fully releasing.
Thanks, for all the information guys. I'll bet it is the master cylinder clogged. Because once the fluid is pushed through and the brake is locked, we opened the master cyclinder and the fluid was low. so it was still in the brake caliper. I'll let you guys know the solution.

Had the same issue.....Cleaning my master seems to have fixed the problem for now but I don't see a little fountain when pumping it.....this concerns me. I'll check back in after a couple rides.
Rubber brake lines are famous for collapsing inside when old, have been kinked or left dangling holding the caliper up while changing pads.replace with stainless lines and your troubles will be solved.
