Default m6 help

Trying to install a M6-XL5-2 on the wifes 04 1200C. The directions state the the tall side of the GUIDE PLATE should go between the the chain and the case (which I take to mean chain and engine). It will not fit that why. I put the primary cover on the bench and still couldn't get the bolt thru the assembly without it being totally cockeyed. If you turnthe guide platearound it goes together fine. But the directions say TALL SIDE BEHIND CHAIN TOWARD CASE in bold letters. Any help would be greatly appreciated

It looks like you have it correct, the tall side of the guide plate goes between the chain and case, NOT the chain and cover.

The FAQ sheet (Item 2) mentions the possibility of needing to grind the guide plate. I'm not sure this applies to your situation though.

I don't think they are refering to the adjuster for the 04 Sportster with regards to grinding. And if they are that would make this thing a real POS. The area where there is interference is where the "legs" are. If you have to grind them...what does it stand on?

I know it's a pain since it's a holiday weekend, but they claim "Customer Service is Number One". I'd give them a call on Tuesday. 1-800-664-6872.

Definitely calling Tues. Now I see there are two adjuster for the late modelSportster. M6-XL5, says its for 91 & up 5 speed Sportsters. The M6-XL5-2 (which I have)says it's for 04 and up 5 speeds Looking at the pics the only difference I see see is the XL5-2has "legs" on the base. The legs are what interfere with the cover

I pulled the cover off andthe adjuster had fell off the bolt that holds it in. I reinstalled it with the long side facing the primary cover and ive been riding it like that for a few weeks now. That metal piece just seems to fit that way a lot better and its alot easier to put back togetherlike that.I tried calling customer service about it and never could get through to ask them about it.

That is what I am afraid of. My guess the reason the adjuster fell off the bolt is that the bolt was never up in the hole. Luckily I peeked in thru theinspection cover and nocticed the guide plate was lifted up off the floor of the primary. As I said before, I tried many times to get it installed correctly...no luck. I wonder how many people follow the instruction and just drive off. I am sure that I will be doing the same thing you did (tall side out). But I will get ahold of them first. I am paranoid the thing will come apart like yours..lock up the bikeand take mama down. Keep me posted and I will you

I just got off the phone with Hayden. They said it doesn't matter which way you install the guide plate. They said they were updating their instruction sheet

Well, I got it installed. Took it out for a test run...seems to shift much smoother, but I don't ride that bike much so I'll have to wait for the Mrs. to give me her opinion
