I had one on my v-star... it was a full windhshield. I'm thinking of getting a detachable for my nightster after the ride I did this weekend. I'd never experienced ride fatigue like that before.

I've only had my bike about 2 weeks, and I went ahead and got a quick release windshield when I bought the bike. I rode with the windshiled on for the first 3 days and then I took it off.I noticed right away a lot more wind on me without the shield, but I actually likeriding more without it.

The shield came on my scoot, so I never rode it with out one. When I detailed my bike, I took off everything....shield, bags, sissy bar ... the works, stripped naked.
This way I could really get at all the road crud that was blown on me by semis in a downpour.

So when I am finished, I decided to take it across the dam and back just to see what it felt like. Holy Mother of God! [sm=insomnia.gif] Is exactly what I said when I goosed it on a straight away. Complete different feel - it was like I wasn't even on the same bike.
Wow!!
That being said - I caught a bug in the cheek about 60 mph ... and it bloodied me, another went straight up the nose.... not fun.
So yeah, get a detachable so when you feeling like you want to ride with a jet between your legs ... you can - just watch out for the incoming!

I took a bumble bee right in the throat years ago at 70 mph makes it really hard to breathe thus making it very hard to do much of anything else.Needless to say I put a windshield on and swore never to ride without one again

I have the detachable. I was riding this past weekend without it on and a bug got inside my jacket and started biting the heck out of my shoulder.

Well, lets see...if you do a lot of highway riding, it is less fatiguing. It's a great bug collector and rock deflector. In the rain, a lot of water is deflected past you. However, in strong winds, it tends to catch the side gusts, so you must be prepared. But, if you have a tail windyou can scoot along with less throttle, thus saving gas.

Pretty much says it all.

I didn't have one on my Sportster, got when when I bought my Dyna.
Even though I got the QD, I just haven't had the desire to ride without it.

Function over form, I always say.

I have a quick detach on mine and love the thing. Took it off yesterday and rode about 100 miles on the freeway and the side streets. I live in the country and covered it all. I felt more worn out after my ride than I had on any other ride I have taken yet. It helps immensely on cutting down the wind and the rain. Got caught in the rain yesterday on the way home and would have loved to have my windshield on. Put it back on this morning and it was like night and day. I will be using mine all the time unless I am in town at the the GFs and doing short rides around town. QD is great and has worked well for me. I say go for it. You will not be sorry.

Looks vs. function. That's a tough call.....

I commute 120 miles to work on the Mass Pike. The detach windshield is a must on the highway.
I would rather have the stones and bugs hit the windshield rather than my face.
