Tubes or not?

K I havea stupid question here.Do the Laced wheels automatically require tubes? A friend of mine built a motorcycle with laced wheels and the wheel had a rubber coating over where the spokes came through the wheel. Is this now a normal practice?

Most laced wheels require tubes, the rubber coating you saw was likely a rim strip which protects the tube.....however there are some mfrs. that now offer tubelesslaced wheels.

Yes, there are some sealed laced wheels on the market. However, most are not, including the ones onour HD's.
