No, you don't have to get new rims. Don't return to that stealer, they don't have your interests at heart. If you are mechanically inclined, you could do quite well with it. Plan on Kreem for the gas tank ($30 or so), a good carburetor cleaning, yes a new battery. Possibly also you may need new sprockets/chain, maybe clutch parts.FIRST see if you can turn the motor over before you buy it. If you can, I think I would go for it. If not, then yes the cylinders may be rusted, but you may be able to work that loose.
See if there's a good independent shop in your area to discuss with them what might be needed.
Also try XLforum's Ironhead section.
If it were me, I'd likely go for it. But then, I have some mechanical skill.
