Default Battery Question

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to the motorcycle world ... so forgive me if this question has been asked and answered.
I'm hoping someone can help me out. I went to start my Sportster Nightster this morning (on my way to work) turned the key on, flipped the on switch and hit the start button ... it clicked twice and then nothing. Is this a dead battery? The clicking noise kind of freaked me out.

I rode the bike on Saturday no problems and the battery is actually new, just put it in like 3 weeks ago.
When I first bought the bike I rode it one full day and when I went to start it the following day it wouldn't turn over. No amount of battery tendering helped it out. So I pulled it from the bike and took it back to the dealer. Got a new battery and that's what I'm dealing with now.

I'm starting to think I'm cursed ... any thoughts, ideas, words of wisdom would be really appreciated.

Thanks!
Megs

After two batteries, I think it's time to have the charging circuit checked. It should be under warranty.

Check your terminals at both ends and make certain they are clean and tight. In particular, the ground at the frame.

What cHarley says is a good idea; however, I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record on this recommendation but MAKE SURE all four points of your battery cables are TIGHT! Use a wrench to tighten all of them, a "look-see" just ain't good enough. For some reason, Sportsters are notorious for a poor connection to the battery. Normally on the negative side, but sometimes positive as well. MAKE SURE they're all snugged up good!

I had the same problems with my sportster when I first got it. Check the connections...if It's not that take it back to the dealer and have them check it under warranty.

They actually found bad wires...donno how that happened. If the connections are good and tight and you're still having the problem take it to the dealer.

Default RE: Battery Question

I recently had the same problem after changing my battery. My neg battery cable on the frame was loose.

Like others have said, check the cables and then take it to the dealer.
