I have a 2.25 gal. tank on my 883. I know, not that big at all. My question is: How far should I be able to travel before I'm going to end up on the reserve? Previous owner said start looking for a station at 100 miles.

I don't have a tach, I'm wondering at around what speeds should I look at for shifting? What should be max speed for each gear?

As for the Tach question...

"Sportster Shifting" should work..

Now... go fish my son.
100 miles/tank sounds about right - make sure you have the petcock set to "on" so you have reserve avail.

someone else will prob post some info on the mph/rpm/gear for your vintage
100 miles is about right.
Shift when it feels right. The twin has enough torque that you don't have to worry too much about shifting too early and the noise from the valve train will surely prohibit you from shifting late.
