You mean loosen the preload?
Just look at the notches on the bottom under the chrome trim. Turning with a spanner wrench clockwise to lowest notch lessens preload, and counter clockwise tightens/increases preload. Should have 5 preload setting st to work with.
You can use a large pair of Vise Grips with rubber covers like these..http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...liers.....some pliers/vise grips even come with the rubber covers when you initially purchse them.....That's what have used in the past so I didn't waste $10 on the spanner wrench and the rubber covers don't scratch the chrome. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; \\;\\\ \\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;

Some shocks \\;have only three setting positions. \\; If in doubt, just move the setting to the middle position. \\; The \\;settings are \\;not exactly intuitive. \\; So, just use "trial and error" method.

The Harley wrench is just about as likely to scratch some chrome as your own wrench. \\; So, I would just use what I had.
