Like Tim said i came from a rice rocket which was only a 500. That thing tho was quick because of it's light weight. It had no problem keeping up with traffic and could cruise comfortably at about 80mph. But it sounded like a weedwacker in comparison to the H-D.

Don't be too quick to dismiss the 883R, i ended up with a 1200R but it was more because it fell into my lap. If cost was a consideration i would have gotten a 883.

I had an 883 and converted over to 1200 and do not really notice that much of a big change. I do wish though that I did have that 6th gear.
The 883 did just as well as the 1200 on streets and highway. If cost is your consideration pick the 883 or get a bigger bike. I am looking at a softail or roadking next year.

The Customs and Lows have the larger gas tank for 883 and 1200. An 883 is cheaper out of the box and insurance is cheaper too. Mid-controls, forward controls, chrome, etc.... Every 883 and 1200 will satisfy your need to keep up with, and blow by, traffic. No, they aren't ninja-turtle bikes. But they have plenty of giddy-up for everything under 120mph; which personally is where I do all of my riding. Of course you can make them go that fast if you want to.

Spend time sitting on, and if possible, riding different ones. You will know the right one when you sit on it. Just post some good pics of the one you get.

I own an 04 883 and I like it just fine, even for two-up riding. I am slowly starting to add more things to increase the power. I am adding new mufflers and will be adding an S&S air cleaner and jet kit soon. Next winter, I plan to convert to 1200. The 883 is plenty to keep up with interstate traffic and has plenty of grunt throughout the powerband. I got the 883 because it was cheaper on price and insurance and I can convert to 1200 for around 500 bucks.

believe it or not in central florida State Farm quoted me 3200.00 a year for insurance. Progressive quoted me 200.00 a year for the same coverage on an 05 XLC. incidentally I have life, car and home owner insurance with State Farm for years and got no break.

WHOA! I'm paying 500/yr, w/ 500 ded's and the highest Bodily Injury and Uninsured Motorists coverages that Progressive offers. Yeah, that's on an 883. Unless you've got some history w/ accidents, tickets, or excessive claims, I'd say someone made a mistake. Speaking of mistakes, I think it'd be a mistake to get liability only on a bike. I can understand going without comp or collision, but make sure that your health insurance, etc will provide coverage. Also consider your guest passenger if you plan on riding 2 up. I'd call and get some other quotes.

Those Progressive commercials aren't far from the truth. My cars are through Nationwide. They quoted me some uber high rate for the bike. Got Progressive through the dealer and it was maybe 1/4 of the Nationwide quote.

I think there are some companies that just don't want to write policies for bikes. Legally they can't say no to you. So they set premiums to discourage you.

The dealer will be able to find you a good rate on insurance. Check that before you limit your coverage. Imagine your frustration if you lowball your coverage and then something happens your aren't covered for.

Hi jaredhd, I had Allstate and they quoted me above $1500/year full coverage, high liability and mods.
I use Geico and pay $335 for the same coverage, except my deductible is lower.

I love the 1200C.

Enjoy.
